INFANTILE BRAIN - Arhinencephaly

Description
The specimen shows the anterior portions of the frontal lobes of a neonate; the lobes are fused; the corpus callosum is absent and the olfactory tracts are absent.
History
This child was born at term, weighing 2500 grams and showing multiple abnormalities including a cleft lip and palate, an absent nasal septum, microcephaly and microphthalmia, and eventration of the left dome of the diaphragm with the spleen and the left lobe of the liver lying in the left pleural space.
